Extended hours for the Canal Street/Algiers Point Ferry originally scheduled to begin later this month have been pushed back to August.
Ferry operator Veolia Transportation says more time was needed to find qualified engineers to adequately staff the system during the longer hours. Those candidates are now undergoing mandatory training.
“Veolia Transportation prides itself on a commitment to safety and to identifying technical experts that can best serve our riders across all modes of transportation,” said Justin T. Augustine, III, Vice President of Veolia Transportation.
The new schedule will now begin on August 4 with ferries running Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Weekend hours will not change, with ferries on the water starting at 10:45 a.m. and running through 8 p.m on Saturday and 6 p.m. on Sunday.
