A 5-year veteran of the NOPD has been suspended without pay following his DWI arrest on the Causeway.

26-year-old officer David Aranda was pulled over by Causeway police on the northbound span around 9 p.m. Saturday.

It's alleged that he was driving erratically in his personal vehicle.

Police stopped Aranda and administered a field sobriety test after detecting alcohol on Aranda's breath. He reportedly failed the test and, as a result, Causeway Police placed him under arrest for driving while intoxicated.

Under NOPD protocol, the department's Public Integrity Bureau immediately placed Aranda on emergency suspension without pay pending the outcome of an investigation.  He had most recently been assigned to the First District.
