Identity of Suspect In Endymion Crash Released

The suspect in the crash along the Edyminion Parade route Saturday night that injured 28 persons has been identified as 25-year-old Neilson Rizzuto.

Rizzuto was headed northbound on Carrollton Avenue when his pickup truck struck parade viewers at the intersection of Carrollton and Orleans Avenue.

21 persons were transported to seven hospitals with minor to serious injuries.  Another 7 who were injured declined treatment.

The victims ranged in age from 1 year old to persons in their 50's.  At least three remained hospitalized with moderate to serious injuries after the crash.

Rizzuto was arrested at the scene and later charged with two counts of first-degree negligent vehicular injuring, one count of hit-and-run driving causing serious injury, and one count of reckless operation of a vehicle. 

The NOPD reports that he failed a standard field sobriety test. Police say a breath alcohol test determined his blood alcohol level was .232% -nearly three times the legal limit.
