New Bill Would Limit Reaching Into Glove Box During Traffic Stops

State lawmakers are trying to limit potential violence during police traffic stops.

A bill cleared a committee Tuesday to require officers to use electronic means first to determine if a motorist has insurance. If that does not work, then the driver would be required to show a hard copy of their paperwork.

Supporters say many drivers keep guns in the glove box and there's always tension when they reach inside them during a traffic stop.
