Walmart Wants to Pick Up Your Groceries And Put Them Away Too!

Walmart not only wants to be the company that picks up the groceries you need, but also to be the one who puts them away for you in your fridge. Huh?

By partnering with August Home, a smart-lock startup, a delivery person would be able to enter customers' homes and put their groceries away. Beta testing is planned to take place in Silicon Valley with a small group of consumers who use August Home servicing.

According to ABC, the retailer claims this service targets busy families that don't have time to stop at a store and shop for groceries.

"Think about that — someone else does the shopping for you AND puts it all away," Sloan Eddleston, Walmart's vice president of e-commerce strategy and business operations, wrote in a blog post on Friday.

In the blog post, Eddleston sketched out the basics for what this process would look like. Basically, delivery drivers will get a one-time passcode that will unlock the August smart lock if customers do not answer the door when the delivery team arrives to drop off groceries. After going inside, the delivery driver will drop the packages in the foyer, and will unload the groceries into the fridge. Then they will leave, locking the door behind them.

The moment the driver rings your doorbell, you'll receive a notification on your phone that the delivery is occurring. And if you’re still uncomfortable with the process, you can watch the delivery take place in real time from your home security cameras through the August app.

"This may not be for everyone — and certainly not right away — but we want to offer customers the opportunity to participate in tests today and help us shape what commerce will look like in the future," Eddleston said.

Walmart said these tests are a “natural evolution” of what the company is all about..." an obsession in saving our customers not just money but also time, making our customers' lives easier in the process”.
