South Louisiana Pastor Admits To Sexually Assaulting Girls

Gavel and scales of justice

A former pastor in southeast Louisiana is scheduled to be sentenced next week after pleading guilty in New Orleans yesterday to sexually assaulting young girls.

Fifty-eight-year-old Sherman Smith of Marrero admitted to second-degree rape and more than a half-dozen other counts during a court appearance yesterday.  The attacks occurred between 1992 and 2000.

In exchange for his plea, Smith, former pastor at Second Highway Baptist Church, will receive a 20-year sentence.
