Cakes Saying Bye-Bye Baby To New Orleans?

Reports Wednesday suggested the Baby Cakes' time in New Orleans could be coming to an end in a few years.

The Wichita Eagle said city officials are looking to woo the AAA team with plans to build a new multi-use stadium in Wichita, Kansas. KSN-TV said it confirmed the Cakes had put in a request to "either move or relocate in 2020". Ballpark Digest said a possible replacement for the Cakes could be a AA team in the Southern League relocating to the Shrine on Airline.

Both KSN and Baseball Digest suggest an announcement could come as early as Thursday.

While it would mean a drop in class, New Orleans could see more future major league talents with a AA team as many top prospects will go straight to "The Show" from there and skip AAA entirely. Joining the Southern League could also make better geographic sense for a New Orleans-based team. For example, the league's current membership includes teams in Biloxi, Mobile and Pensacola.

The Baby Cakes' General Manager "Cookie" Rojas told Sports 1280 New Orleans' David Ducorbier Wednesday that the team is focused on the 2019 season.
