Suspect Dies After Arrest By NOPD

The death of an armed man after he was taken into custody late Tuesday night on Dauphine Street in New Orleans is the subject of an investigation by the police department's Public Integrity Bureau.

Police Chief Michael Harrison says body cam footage and eyewitness accounts lead him to conclude that the three officers involved did not use excessive force while taking the suspect into custody and cuffing him on the ground.

The man had allegedly suffered an earlier injury and stopped breathing.

Efforts to revive him at the scene failed and he was pronounced dead around two yesterday morning at Tulane Medical Center.
