The Louisiana Department of Health may have doled out upwards of $85 million on ineligible recipients in the state's expanded Medicaid program.

The finding was part of a report released Tuesday by the office of Legislative Auditor Daryl Purpera.

The evaluation covered a 20-month period using Louisiana Workforce Commission data and involved only a sampling of Medicaid recipients to reach the report's conclusions.

LDH Secretary Rebekah Gee says the agency has a new system in place now that checks LWC data and other wage data to determine a person's eligibility.
