Louisiana is receiving nearly $8 million from the U.S. Department of Education to increase the quality of childhood education.

Officials say this grant will go towards increasing parental knowledge of the early childhood environment and promote getting their children involved with local learning centers.  It will also help create locally-led pilot programs, expand teacher training and support a study of the state's quality rating system.

The Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary education believes this is key to a successful future.
