Vessels Strike Bridges Spanning Mississippi River

No injuries are being reported after vessels struck two bridges spanning the Mississippi River both in and near Louisiana.

A 30-barge tow slammed into a railroad bridge west of Vicksburg near the border of Louisiana and Mississippi yesterday morning. Two barges sank and the river in that location and the bridge were both closed afterwards.

In Jefferson Parish, the Huey P. Long Bridge was struck by the tower of a passing ship yesterday afternoon, though authorities didn't find any significant damage to the span and reopened it after a three-hour closure.
