Prison Drug Drop Interrupted, Ex-Angola Prison Worker Arrested

An ex-Angola prison worker accused of trying to smuggle drugs and other contraband into the lockup less than two years ago is in trouble for allegedly attempting the same thing yesterday.

This time, authorities say 25-year-old April Matthews was making a try to introduce contraband into the Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in St. Gabriel.

As she fled the parking lot of the prison, her vehicle struck two parked cars and a DOC unit. She was arrested a short time later with items that included cell phones, marijuana, pain pills and cigarettes.
