Slidell Man Drowns Trying To Save Fiancee Off Florida Coast

State of Florida State, US

Reports say a man from Slidell has died while trying to save his fiancee in the waters off the coast of Panama City in Florida.

Family members say Maurice Cousin, 53, went into the ocean to help his fiancee, who he was able to lift to safety before getting caught in a rip current.

Witnesses jumped in and helped pull him from the water, but Cousin was not breathing when they had gotten him back to shore. Emergency responders performed CPR until he was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

This is the second Louisiana resident to drown in Panama City in less than a month.

University of New Orleans student Nick Collinsworth, 19, entered the water on April 19th and has not been seen since.
