The U.S. Coast Guard says it is suspending the search for a small plane that was reported overdue in Ascension Parish earlier this week.
Coast Guard officials announced on Sunday that the search for Steven Schumacher was being suspended after crews canvassed an area over 62,000 sq. nautical miles for more than 21 hours.
Schumacher is believed to have been the only person on board the aircraft and was confirmed to be a doctor with the St. Francis Healthcare System in Missouri.
Schumacher also studied at the LSU School of Medicine and worked as a resident at Charity Hospital in New Orleans.
