Number Of Hospitalized, On Vents From COVID-19 In La. Continues Falling

The Louisiana Department of Health added over 14,000 to the number of those presumed recovered from COVID-19 in its update Wednesday.

The total stood at 118,120 as of August 17, an increase of 14,608 from last week.

The number of those hospitalized due to the coronavirus and those needing ventilators also continued to fall by 44 and 12 to 1,204 and 175, respectively.

LDH reported an additional 779 COVID-19 cases, which brought the running total since the pandemic began to 139,903 after the daily removal of newly discovered duplicates and out of state cases.

"The collection dates for most of these cases (93%) fall between August 12 and August 18, 2020," said the department in a tweet. "82% of the cases reported to the state today were community spread. People aged 18-29 represent 18% of these cases. The second highest age group is people aged 30-39 (17%)."

The death count from the coronavirus increased by 37 to 4,468.
