City Council President Jason Williams is asking a federal court to throw out the tax charges against him.
In a motion filed, Williams called the accusations selective and vindictive.
He also insists that his tax preparer, Henry Timothy, is to blame for inflating his business expenses on his tax returns.
According to court documents, Williams said Timothy has been inconsistent with his stories since federal investigators interviewed him in early 2019.
Williams was originally scheduled for trial this month, but the date has been pushed back to January.
He is running for Orleans Parish district attorney and said the tax charges are an attempt to derail his campaign.
