The Archdiocese of New Orleans is updating its list with the names of clergy who have been credibly accused or have admitted to sexual abuse.
On Wednesday, the late Rev. Robert Cooper became the 73rd name on the list, and officials also suspended Rev. J. Luis Fernandez and Rev. Joseph deWater from performing clerical duties.
Cooper passed away in 1989 after serving in at least New Orleans-area parishes starting in 1977.
Officials say allegations against Cooper were first brought forward 13 years-ago, but he was not added to the list until recently when more evidence was discovered.
