Gov. John Bel Edwards says he is lifting several COVID-19 restrictions while keeping the statewide public health emergency in place.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Edwards announced that almost all crowd size and mask-wearing restrictions are being removed.

Edwards praised the more than 1.4 million Louisianans who have been vaccinated, which allowed him to end most mandates.

The governor says schools must require masks until the end of the current semester, and masks will still be mandatory on public transportation, at healthcare facilities, and in prisons.
