The Louisiana Department of Health is reporting more than 1,000 coronavirus hospitalizations in the state.
The department made the announcement on Sunday, which it rarely does, because of growing concern over the rapid spread of the omicron variant.
The announcement said more than 15,000 new cases have been reported in Louisiana since Friday, and with 1,014 now hospitalized.
State health officials urged Louisiana residents to wear masks and get vaccines and boosters.
