Two suspects are in custody after Louisiana State Police recovered 16 stolen vehicles from an abandoned apartment complex in Algiers.

Acting on a tip, troopers found eight stolen vehicles last month and learned that several people were squatting in the abandoned property.

Last week, troopers arrested 40-year-old David Darby of Texas and 41-year-old Haley Smith of New Orleans, who were in a stolen pickup truck.

Detectives then found eight more stolen vehicles at the apartment complex, along with other stolen items.

Darby and Smith face charges including auto theft and possession of stolen property.
