The Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education is recommending a teacher pay raise similar to Gov. John Bel Edwards's proposal.

The governor's executive budget for the year includes a $2,000 pay raise for teachers, plus another $1,000 if more money becomes available.

The State Board on Wednesday passed a recommendation that also includes a $2,000 raise, but allows districts to use the next $1,000 to target specific needs rather than across the board.
