There are calls for a third party to investigate how the Jeffrey Vappie case has been handled after audio recordings made by the NOPD's Public Integrity Bureau were leaked.

Copies of the recordings were obtained by FOX 8 News, which said the recordings were inadvertently released to a HANO board member.

Vappie, a former security officer for Mayor LaToya Cantrell, is under investigation for breaking protocol, and details of the investigation have been leaked to the city attorney.

Rafael Goyeneche is president of the Metropolitan Crime Commission, and he says it's critically important the Inspector General investigate the source of the leak.

Former New Orleans Police Chief Ronal Serpas and City Council member J.P. Morrell also want a third-party investigation.

Morrell tells Fox 8 News the Council may investigate if no one else does.
