Hundreds of dead fish are floating in the northwest lagoon in New Orleans City Park, next to the popular hiking and biking trail.
The fish kill was spotted Wednesday between Fillmore Ave. and Allen Toussaint Blvd.
A Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries biologist investigated and said the fish may have been killed by the low concentration of dissolved oxygen in the water.
He said the water temperature is about 90 degrees, and warmer water holds less oxygen.
The dead fish include bass, catfish, shad, and bluegill.
