A proposed ordinance involving feeding New Orleans' homeless is being put on hold.

Yesterday a council committee meeting addressed the ordinance which would impose fines on people feeding those living on the streets.

It would apply only to people dropping off unsealed food items or leaving food unattended.

One of the sponsors of the ordinance, Councilman Freddie King, says its an effort to reduce the increasing rodent and sanitation issues at homeless encampments.

After hours of debate, Councilman Eugene Green moved to defer the ordinance until a later date.
