A series of shootings in New Orleans that left several young people dead is part of a growing trend in Louisiana.

The Children's Defense Fund says Louisiana is one of 10 states that account for half of the shooting deaths of children and teens across the country.

In fact, the number of children and teens shot to death in Louisiana is twice the rate for the rest of the United States.

In Louisiana, 17 young people are shot for every 100,000 people in the state. The average number for the rest of the country is just under 6 per 100,000.
