The Louisiana Pardon Board is denying clemency hearings for five death row inmates.

The board denied hearings on Wednesday for James Copeland of Livingston Parish, Tracy Lee of Natchitoches Parish, Larry Roy of Rapides Parish, Willie Tart of Ouachita Parish, and Michael Taylor of DeSoto Parish.

In June, 56 death row inmates filed clemency applications, and Gov. John Bel Edwards directed the board to schedule clemency hearings.

Attorney General Jeff Landry and a group of district attorneys objected, so the board instead held brief administrative reviews.
