Governor-elect Jeff Landry says the state attorney general's office will be handling more criminal prosecutions in New Orleans.

In a press conference at the Superdome, Landry said that starting next year, the state attorney general's office will prosecute criminal cases brought in New Orleans by the Louisiana State Police and other state investigating agencies.

Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams expressed enthusiasm for the arrangement, saying prosecutors from the attorney general's office will help ease the city's heavy criminal caseloads.
