The developer who owns the worn-down Plaza Tower says he'll fight the city's plan to tear it down.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell said on Tuesday the city is soliciting bids to demolish the blighted downtown skyscraper.

The 45-story tower on Howard Avenue has been vacant since 2002 and is starting to fall apart, partly because of hurricane damage.

Developer Joe Jaeger says the tower is under contract to be sold to another investor, and the city's announcement could upset the negotiations.
