Sen. Bill Cassidy is opposed to Gov. Jeff Landry's move to end Louisiana's open primary elections in favor of closed primaries run by the two major parties.

A special session starts on Monday to discuss redistricting, but the proposed change to the primaries is also on the agenda.

Cassidy says the change would cost about $90 million.

He's calling on his fellow Republicans to act like the fiscal conservatives they claim to be, now that they have supermajorities in both the House and Senate, plus the governor's mansion.
