A former NOPD officer is under federal indictment for a dozen counts of wire fraud related to falsified timesheets.

Federal investigators say Todd Morrell was paid for years to work for the NOPD and off-duty patrols in the New Orleans Fair Grounds neighborhood at the same time.

Morrell is accused of both double-billing and billing for hours he didn't work.

Morrell, who retired from the NOPD in late 2021, is the son of former Orleans Clerk of Court Arthur Morrell, and the brother of current City Council Vice President J.P. Morrell.
