An 81-year-old Army veteran was carjacked by a group of teens while delivering pizzas in Chicago. Ernie Aimone told Fox News that he's never had any issues while delivering pizzas for the last 40 years.
That changed on April 10, when Aimone was sucker punched while crossing the street.
"I had just finished delivering a pizza, and I was walking back to my car, and somebody behind me was yelling 'gimme the keys, gimme the keys' and ran at me real fast from behind," Aimone told Fox News.
After getting punched in the face, Aimone dropped to the ground and pretended he was dead as the carjackers took his keys and drove away in his 2015 Hyundai Sante Fe.
A few hours later, Chicago police tracked down Aimone's car on the highway and tried to stop the vehicle. However, the driver fled and led police on a high-speed chase that ended when the driver crashed.
A teenage suspect was taken into custody, and police are searching for the others involved in the carjacking.
Aimone's car suffered significant damage that his insurance company wouldn't cover because he was using it for commercial purposes at the time.
After the incident, the Gladstone Chamber of Commerce created a GoFundMe page to raise money to repair the damage to Aimone's car.
Aimone said that he doesn't plan to stop delivering pizzas.
"I can't retire; I'd go crazy," he said. "Walking the floors, watching TV – that's not me."
