The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans is installing more accurate water meters that are expected to increase customers' water bills.
Board members told the New Orleans City Council Public Works committee on Monday that the installation of the "smart" meters could result in a ten to 25-percent increase in the average bill.
So far more than 10,000 of the meters have been installed.
The goal is to install meters for 50 percent of all accounts by the end of the year.
