Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser opposes Louisiana's plan to move from open primaries to closed-party primaries next year.
Gov. Jeff Landry is pushing for closed primaries, but Nungesser says open primaries have worked in Louisiana for 50 years.
In the state's first closed primary election next spring, voters will vote only for candidates affiliated with their registered party. Voters registered as no-party will have to choose a primary.
Nungesser says the change will cost the state a fortune.
