Pels Go To All-Star Break With Victory Over Memphis

The Pelicans have gone to the All-Star break with a victory in Memphis.

Solomon Hill led all scorers with 23 points to help the Pelicans hold off the Grizzlies 95-91.

Jrue Holiday scored 19 and Anthony Davis added 18 as New Orleans won for the third time in four games. The Pelicans head into the All-Star break at 23-and-34.

Alexis Ajinca had 12 points and 10 rebounds in the winning effort.  Mike Conley paced the Grizzlies with 17 points in defeat.  Marc Gasol dropped 15 with 12 boards and nine assists.  Memphis is 10 games over .500 at the break.

The Pelicans went up by 18 points in the second half over the Grizzlies, watched that lead cut to one in the fourth quarter, then hung on to with a win in a place where they hadn’t prevailed in three-plus years.

“You had to know, going into the fourth, that they were going to make a run at us. It was just going to be a matter for us to sustain, hold them off and come up with a few plays down the stretch, and we did just that," Coach Alvin Gentry said.

Gentry was pleased with his team's performance on a four game road trip.

“I think any time you go 3-1 on a road trip and have the opportunity to win the fourth game, you have to be satisfied. As I have said, we still have a lot of work to do and not many games to do it in. We just have to come back after the break and be really locked in. We can’t have any slip-ups or setbacks.”
