Portable Traffic Barricades Set Up In French Quarter

As Carnival kicks into high gear with dozens of parades scheduled through Tuesday, portable metal barriers have been set up in three locations in the French Quarter to prevent vehicles from crossing Bourbon Street.

The barriers have been moved into position on Bienville, Conti and St. Peter Streets .

They are 20 feet long and have walls that will be raised at 5 p.m. each evening through Fat Tuesday. The plan is to keep the angular walls in an upright position through 5 a.m. daily.

The barricades are intended to protect visitors from potential attacks by people targeting revelers with vehicles.
