Fire Destroys Home of Tyler Perry's Father In Greensburg

A fire apparently sparked by an electrical malfunction destroyed the Greensburg home of the father of actor. writer and director Tyler Perry on Monday night.

Emmit Perry, who raised Tyler Perry but is not his biological father, told authorities that he heard a "popping noise" in the attic of his home before it was engulfed in flames.

50 firefighters battled the blaze at he home in St. Helena Parish but the residence was destroyed.  The flames could be seen from miles away.

The elder Perry told WBRZ that he could have been killed had the fire broken out later when he was asleep.

 'I made it out alive. If it wouldn't have happened then, me and my daughter would've probably been in there, and we would have burned up."

Perry's wife died in 2009.
