Police: Man who kidnapped and beat girlfriend now in custody

PARADIS, LA -  A man accused of kidnapping and beating is girlfriend Tuesday morning is now in police custody, according to St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne.

According to police, around 9:30 a.m. ,22-year-old Jerry Celestine kidnapped his former girlfriend on Paul Frederick Street in Luling at gunpoint and forced her to drive.

They traveled along Old Spanish Trail in Paradis where the car went into the ditch and the woman fled after being beaten.

She ran to the Paradis Library and found safety inside. Celestine fled the scene on foot several minutes before deputies arrived.

Residents in the area north of Highway 90 in Paradis had been advised to stay in their homes and call 911 if they saw anyone matching Celestine's description.

He is about 5'10", 150 pounds, and has dreadlocks. He was wearing a blue shirt and grey jogging pants.

No schools in the area were impacted. Details surrounding his arrest were not immediately available.
