The New Orleans City Council is taking a financial step to address the huge problem of clogged catch basins.
The panel Thursday gave the go-ahead to spend an initial $7 million to clean and repair the basins that have been blamed in part for severe flooding late last month and early this month.
Councilmembers also approved spending $500,000 for an after-action report on the floods to determine what worked and what didn't.
