Two children are dead in a fire that erupted early Sunday in the Jefferson Parish city of Gretna.
Efforts to rescue the twin eight-year-old girls by their father and others proved unsuccessful. The grandmother managed to get two other children out of the home before the smoke and flames became so intense.
The state fire marshal says the fire apparently began in the kitchen, possibly as the result of an electrical problem.
