Student safety may have been the ultimate goal, but the St. Tammany Parish School Board is opting not to require all students in the district to wear uniforms.

The proposal received a thumbs-down last night to expand uniform requirements to six high schools. Instead, that decision will be left up to parents.

On another school-safety related matter, the board voted to spend $2 million so each campus can have a school resource officer.
