Tropical Storm Chris Forms, Beryl Continues WNW Trek

Tropical Storm Chris formed off the coast of the Carolinas Sunday, the third named storm of the 2018 season.

Chris, stuck between weak steering currents, is expected to meander for a few days before eventually moving towards the northeast, away from land. By mid-week, Chris should be at hurricane strength.

The main threat from Chris will be winds and rip currents while it lingers off the coast.

In the tropical Atlantic, what was once described as a "compact" hurricane is now barely holding itself together.

Tropical Storm Beryl was said to have a poorly-defined center Sunday morning as it moves toward the Lesser Antilles.

The storm is expected to dissipate sometime in the next 48 hours, but will still be a potential rainmaker for the Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Hispaniola.
