Chris Expected To Strengthen

Tropical Storm Chris continued to lazily drift off the coast of the Carolinas Monday as steering currents in the area have collapsed.

With Chris sitting in an area that should allow for further development, it's expected to reach hurricane strength sometime in the next 24 hours.

The system is expected to remain offshore before eventually being pushed to the northeast.

Meanwhile, forecasters are still keeping an eye on the remnants of Beryl. The National Hurricane Center says there's a medium chance of a tropical cyclone developing again in the next five days as it moves into the western Atlantic.

Neither system presents a threat to the Gulf Coast at this time.
