The 2018 Atlantic hurricane season might end up being remembered as the season of the subtropical system.

"It is interesting to note that so far this hurricane season, four of the five systems have been a subtropical cyclone at some point in their lifetimes," read a discussion on the system from the National Hurricane Center while Subtropical Storm Ernesto was still a subtropical depression Wednesday morning.

Ernesto, which spun up in the north Atlantic Ocean, is not expected to threaten land.
