Orleans Parish Public Schools Resume Without Water Filters For Lead

The Lens is reporting more than 45,000 students are returning to schools this month without water filters to screen for lead.

This comes despite officials with the Orleans Parish public school system promising to install the filters last year.

Eco Water Systems was supposedly hired last year to install the filters on drinking fountains and kitchen taps, but the project had to be re-bid since the filters weren't certified to protect against microbes.

A spokeswoman said a new contract hasn't been signed yet, but said filter installation should begin shortly after it's signed.
