Dr. Russell Klein, a lung specialist who spent more than 50 years at the LSU School of medicine, has died at the age of 83.

He passed away on Sunday, September 2nd at Touro Infirmary following complications from meningitis.

Klein began as a student at LSU before becoming a resident, professor and eventually an administrator. Following Hurricane Katrina, Klein led a huge fundraiser to help re-build a patient simulation center destroyed by the floodwaters.

Dr. Larry Hollier, chancellor of LSU Health Sciences Center, says Klein was fully committed to LSU and to the students who attended the school.
