SPLC: La. African Americans More Likely To Be Arrested For Marijuana

Louisiana

The Southern Poverty Law Center says African Americans in Louisiana are more likely than whites to be arrested for marijuana possession.

The center's report on racial profiling found African Americans on average are 2.9 times more likely to be arrested for marijuana possession, even though white people are found to use it at similar rates.

It also found although African Americans make up 31% of the state's population, they account for 68% of adults in prison and are over four times more likely than whites to serve time for a felony.
