About 200 female lawyers in the state, including Jill Craft who practices law in Baton Rouge, are urging that Louisiana Senators Bill Cassidy and John Kennedy vote against the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

A letter accompanying the petition they signed, that was started by two New Orleans lawyers, Celeste Coco-Ewing and Judy Barasso, says Kavanaugh lacks the judicial temperament and credibility for the post.

The motion to begin final debate on Kavanaugh's nomination squeaked through the U.S. Senate Friday morning in a 51-49 vote.

A confirmation vote is expected to happen tomorrow or Sunday.

Alaska's Lisa Murkowski was the only Republican to vote no on the procedural vote.  West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin voted yes.

Murkowski and Manchin have not revealed how they will vote on confirmation.

The procedural vote followed a tumultuous couple of weeks, highlighted by sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh that the veteran federal judge strongly denied.
