A study published by USA Today reports Louisiana has the highest rate of maternal mortality.

Between 2012 and 2016, there were an estimated 58 maternal deaths for every 100,000 babies born. A 2012 report placed a heavy emphasis on the deaths stemming from social issues such as obesity and smoking, but a new report published in September 2018 goes much deeper into medical care failures in the deaths.

According to the CDC, black women are 3.5 times more likely to die from pregnancy related issues than white women.
