A New Orleans high school has elected its first-ever male-born homecoming queen.

Ninth-grader Dylan Ligier said he ran for homecoming queen at the Morris Jeff Community School to conquer his fears.

Dylan's dad says his son was born with gender dysphoria and is currently in the process of transitioning.

In a statement, administrators said they are happy the school is a safe place for students to express themselves and be open-minded.
