New Orleans firefighters were called out to battle a three-alarm housefire in Uptown New Orleans early this morning.

The fire took place on Heaton Street between General Ogden and Eagle Streets, engulfing three homes in flames.

One of the victims, Gilbert Toussaint, says he was awaken by the smoke alarm just before 4 a.m. Toussaint said he grabbed his dog and got out.

He believes the fire began at the house next door that is under renovation. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
